Venture Patenting

Sometimes, all you have is an idea.

Developing a business can feel like a catch-22 situation. Want to borrow funds? You need collateral. To get collateral, you need to borrow funds. The same is true in the intellectual property arena. In order to gain acceptance in financing circles, you inevitably need to show something tangible for your idea. More often than not, what that means to an investor is one or more pending patent applications.

Venture Patenting can help.

I use the term Venture Patenting because it reflects the risk-based nature of the type of patenting work I choose to do for certain clients. Such clients are usually independent innovators and small companies with high growth potential that do not have much capital to invest towards patent protection. Moreover, I find that protecting the invention is all too often just an afterthought in the innovation process for such clients. When such clients do think about such protection, they are usually dissuaded by how much the high cost of legal fees associated with seeking patent protection has steadily grown.

Through Venture Patenting, I help you to focus your invention in the right path and develop your patent strategy. Rather than having you pay up-front legal fees, I invest my time and effort in your patents on a contingent basis. Because all situations are different and because not all inventions are appropriate for venture patenting, I only take on a few new venture patenting clients per year. Specifically, each prospective venture patent client’s proposed invention is screened for patentability potential and commercial viability.

At the present time, Venture Patenting is limited to Maine-based clients or clients willing to re-locate to Franklin County, Maine. Accordingly, this is designed as an economic development program for my local community here in western Maine. This program complements the efforts of the Greater Franklin Development Corporation located in downtown Farmington, Maine. If you are a Maine resident or would consider re-locating to Franklin County, Maine, please contact me further to learn more about Venture Patenting.
