About Letters Patent
LettersPatent.com was established in 1998 as the website for my patent law office, The Patent Law Office of Dennis R. Haszko. From January 2000 until July 2006, the website was a reference point for inventors seeking patent information while my solo patent practice was on hold.
Today, LettersPatent.com is once again the portal into my solo patent practice in the picturesque foothills of western Maine’s mountains.
Historically, the term “Letters Patent” itself refers to a type of legal document issued by a monarch or government granting a right, monopoly, title, or status to someone or some entity such as a corporation. Nowadays, Letters Patent refers to such a document that grants exclusive rights in an invention and is more commonly known simply as a patent.
I have practiced U.S. and Canadian Patent Law at both the United States Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO) and the Canadian Intellectual Property Office (CIPO). As well, I have prosecuted international patent applications (a.k.a., “PCT applications”) at the World Intellectual Property Office (WIPO) via the European Patent Office (EPO). Additionally, I have served publicly as a USPTO Patent Examiner in Virginia.
With well over 15 years worth of experience in Patent Law, I continue to marvel at the creativity I see daily. If you have any questions about what you find on this website or about how I may assist you further, please feel free to contact me. I’ll be more than happy to try to answer your question or point you in the right direction!
